Rams Hill Golf Club ~
If you’re a golfer looking for seclusion, beauty, first class accommodation, fresh air or an escape from the congestion, Rams Hill Golf Club in Anza Borrego State Park, California could be the ticket. It has the perfect terroir, or as the French say, the perfect blend of geography, geology, and climate to blend the perfect bouquet.
Situated only two hours from the San Diego Airport, limousine and helicopter services are available through the concierge. He can also book a room for you in the La Casa Del Zorro Hotel and Spa (1/2 mile away), the Borrego Springs Resort and Spa (4 miles away) or even suggest a home rental on the course and pre-stock the frig, pantry and bar to your specifications.
Rams Hill Golf Club a Tom Fazio Design ~
Rams Hill Golf Club, currently open to the public, is an 18 hole, 7,247 yard golf course designed by Tom Fazio sporting a 75.1 rating and a 141 slope from the black tees. It has a par of 72 with five sets of tees so the shorter hitters can still have a lot of fun.
Sitting above the desert floor by several hundred feet, this golf course has magnificent vistas of the desert below and nearby mountains of Borrego State Park. The course provides numerous penalties for errant strokes including streams, lakes, cascading waterfalls, and numerous fairway and greenside bunkers. The undulation of the course is also unusual for a desert course but because of its elevated stance this desert venue provides many elevated tees, fairways and greens.
Rams Hill Golf Club Challenges ~
Some of the par-fives are reachable depending on your length and direction of the wind. They range from 519 to 577 yards in length from the black. There is one short par-four that can be reached off the tee (333 yards) although it is well protected by sand so the risk reward can be intimidating. Another par-four stretches 508 yards and provides adequate practice for most golfer’s long iron skills. The par threes range from 151 on the short side to 220 on the long side. There is plenty of golf out here for those that want to be challenged. The greens are bent and the fairways and tees are over-seeded in the winter.
