Inaugural USGA Amateur Four Ball Championship This is the inaugural USGA Amateur Four Ball event and is being held at the Olympic Club in San Francisco where five U.S. Opens have previously been held along with 3 U.S. Amateur and one U.S. Junior Amateur Championship.  My brother in law use to caddy at this club when he was growing up.  The course plays to 6,981 yards par 70 and was designed by Sam Whiting in 1927.  This course is characterized by rolling hills, tree lined fairways and has two par three’s on each side and only two par fives on …

The Masters is Almost Upon Us

The Masters and First Major of the Year ~ A Little History The Masters Golf Tournament is the only major U.S. golf tournament that is played on the same course each year.  It originated in 1934 and was founded by Robert Tyre Jones Jr. one of the greatest golfers of all time.  Mr. Jones purchased the land, an arboretum and indigo plantation from the Civil War days, where Augusta National now resides for a reported $70,000 in 1931.  In 1933 the course design and construction was completed with the help of Alister MacKenzie, originally trained as a surgeon and later …
